Scrambled Marsman, 2026
Installation for Onderuit in de Polder
‘Herinnering aan Holland’ by Hendrik Marsman is a Dutch literary classic, portraying an idealized and romantic vision of the Netherlands. Romantic notions of nature continue to shape how we think about farming, even influencing political debates. In Scrambled Marsman I try to question this romantic perspective by scrambling Marsman’s poem.
(Part of) Herinnering aan Holland by Hendrik Marsman:
‘Denkend aan Holland
zie ik breede rivieren
traag door oneindig
laagland gaan’
The sheep are painted with standard kettle marking spray.
